Food Adulteration

• It’s an age old problem
• It means, addition of such unacceptable things to the food materials, which ruin the quality of the food for consumption
• It results in two disadvantages
• Consumer pays more money for food of lower quality
• It can be injurious to health, including death
• It includes following examples, which is by no means complete

Food stuff	Adulterant
Cereals	Muds, grits, soapstone bits
Dals	Coaltar dyes, Khesari dhal
Turmeric	Lead chromate powder
Chilli powder	Saw dust, brick powder
Coffe powder	Date husk, tamarind seeds
Ice cream	Cellouse, starch
Milk	Fat, starch, water,removal of cream
Ghee	Vanaspathi
