Purification Of Water On A Large Scale

Production and availability of safe and wholesome water is the main purpose of water treatment. The method of treatment to be employed depends upon the nature and source of raw water and the standards desired. Ground water (e.g., wells and springs) do not need any treatment, other than disinfection. Surface water (e.g., river water) which tends to be turbid and polluted requires extensive treatment. The components of a typical water purification system consist of one or more of the following measures:

  1. Storage
  2. Filtration
  3. Disinfection
