History

Acrylic fibre is a synthetic fibre identified first by Dr.W.H.Carothers team in 1893 for Dupont company. Even though the possibility of making this fibre from acrylonitrile is known, the fibre was developed by Dupont company in 1944 and the commercial production started in the year 1950 under the trademark ‘Orlon’.
