Introduction

Rural Development has become buzz word in the arena of human development, especially with the setting of Millennium Development Goals to be achieved globally by 2020. India should be one among the top list of the countries walking towards rural development, as life in India is mostly in rural areas.

Rural geographically refers to the villages and demographically to the people living in villages. Simply defining development is growth. Development is the process of change in terms of expansion, progress and advancement in quality of life. Rural development is a multidimensional process of attaining progress and advancement in living standards both geographically and demographically.

Rural development is a complex process of change in rural sub-systems and their interaction leading to desired improvements in rural employment opportunities, income distribution, rural welfare and other aspects of rural life. It is a package of action which covers a series of mutually supporting projects and activities concern with different sectors of rural communities.
