Lesson 45:Role of Regional Agricultural research Stations in Rural Development

The following are activities of RARS

  1. Developing database of soils, crops, cropping patterns, pest and diseases, etc of the zone.
  2. Technology Assessment and Refinement (TAR) of Agriculture technologies.
  3. Conducting of Field Diagnostic visits to the fields of farmers where there are incidences of pest, disease and other problems.
  4. Organizing Kisan melas to provide practical exposure to farmers to the new technology.
  5. Training programmes will be organized for the extension personnel, farmers and personnel of other coordinating agencies.
  6. Linkages with research and line departments will be established.
  7. Training and Visit (T&V) monthly meetings and Zonal Research and Extension Agricultural Council Meetings (ZREAC) meetings will be conducted.
  8. Facilitates RAWEP programme.
  9. Develop information material for distribution among public.
  10. Strong coordination with All India Radio (AIR) and Door Darsan (DD) will be established for the purpose of mass communication.
  11. Group discussions and method demonstration will be organized for the farmers.
