Working for the wires

Working for one of the wire services is highly pressurized, with constant deadlines. The pace of wire service work you to fast thinking in all manner of news situations.

Work on the wire services will include:

• A “hard news” emphasis
• A national approach to local news
• Shooting
• A single picture orientation
• Exclusively 35mm cameras
• Tight deadlines
• An audience of editors across the country in newspapers, magazines and television that subscribe to the wire
• Use of wire transmitter rather than a printed page.
