PROGRAMME PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION 2(1+1)
Lesson 15 : Execution of Programme

Introduction

After the programme has been carefully planned, with the needs identified and priorities established, the next major step is that of execution of the programme (Fig. 15.1). Programme execution involves putting the plan of work into action in the community. Programme “implementation” may be regarded as a process by which a set of predetermined activities is carried out in a planned manner, with a view to achieving certain established objectives. A programme is usually implemented through a series of well defined projects’ and all projects are to be put into action for implementation.

Programme implementation is a way of getting things done, and the desirable and undesirable consequences that occur. Execution of programme is the longest step of programme planning and typically requires most energy and resources. Once the plan is finalized for implementation, all possible efforts need to be undertaken to carry out the plan as scheduled. Programme implementation is not a single person activity rather involves participation of local leaders, local bodies like schools, panchayats, cooperatives etc., and organizations like mahila mandals, youth clubs, voluntary organizations, NGOs etc. and other extension agencies for carrying out the programme efficiently and successfully.
