Definitions

The term disaster is originated from a French word ‘desastre’.

Disaster is a situation arising from natural forces where large-scale disruption of infrastructure, services occurs, causing a serious impact on human life, economy and environment.

Disaster is also defined as a sudden calamity producing great material damage, human loss and distress.

According to WHO “Disaster is an occurrence that causes damage, economic destruction, loss of human life and deterioration in health and health services”.

Among all these types, we are concerned about the following three types.
