Electric bye-laws

  1. The electric distribution cables or wiring should be laid in a separate duct.
  2. It should be sealed at every floor with non-combustible material with the same fire resistance as that of the duct.
  3. Low and medium voltage wiring in shaft and in false ceiling should go in separate conduits.
  4. Water mains, telephone wires, inter-com lines, gas pipes or any other service line should not be laid in duct for electric cables.
  5. Separate conduits for water pumps, lifts, staircases and corridor lighting and blowers for pressuring system should be directly from the main switch gear panel.
  6. The circuits should be laid in separate conduit pipes, so that fire in one circuit will not affect the others.
  7. Master switches controlling essential service circuits should be clearly labeled.
  8. The inspection panel doors and any other opening in the shaft should be provided with airtight fire doors having fire resistance of not less than 1 hour.
  9. Medium and low voltage wiring in shafts and within false ceiling should go in metal conduit.
  10. Any 230 voltage wiring for lightening or other services, above false ceiling should have 660V grade insulation.
  11. The false ceiling including all fixtures used for its suspension should be of non-combustible material.
  12. An independent and well-ventilated service room should be there on the ground floor with direct access from outside or from the corridor for the purpose of termination of electrical supply from the licenses service and alternative supply cables.
  13. The doors provided for the service room should have fire resistance of not less than 1 hour.
