Lesson 3 : Sewing Machine

Embroidery sewing machines

These machines can be used for surface embellishment of fabrics. There are three types of embroidery machines, heavy duty sewing machines, home embroidery machines and computer embroidery machines.

1. Heavy duty sewing machines: These machines are meant for big jobs and for commercial use. They are made for large capacity use. This type of machine is quite expensive and usually large textile manufacturers use them.
2. Home embroidery machines: These machines are suitable for general home use. It will serve the purpose of a standard machine with the option of switching and changing settings to embroidery mode. This machine is quite affordable.
3. Computer embroidery machines: These machines are an advance over the older mechanical embroidery and sewing machines. They offer precision and variety in designs with a simplified operating procedure. Most of them are equipped with an LED display and show simple instructions on the screen for the user. A number of companies like Singer, Brother etc offer a wide variety of embroidery sewing machines. The features of computer embroidery sewing machines include: Different sized frames, software for digitizing the image, a USB cable to transmit designs directly into the machine, built-in stitches, automatic needle threading, etc.
