Snaps

Also called press buttons, they are made from plastic, steel or brass and are available in different sizes. A press button consists of two parts: a ball and a socket, which snap together when pressed tightly. They can be used for both functional and decorative purposes and can be inconspicuous. They can be used in infant’s clothes etc. The ball part is sewn to the overlay and the socket to the underlay with buttonhole or whipped stitches. Care should be taken while positioning the two parts of the press buttons in such a way that they fit snugly. Snaps generally have less holding power and as such are a bad choice in areas of garments exposed to lot of stress and strain.
