Marking the hemline

Accurate marking of the hemline is necessary if one wants to make a flat and inconspicuous hem. It can be done in any of the three ways mentioned below:
  1. Using a flat surface: Suitable for straight skirts & tops, it is done by placing the garment flat on a table and marking the hem width, at intervals, using a hem guage or a ruler.
  2. By hanging the garment: Hems for bias cut garments can be easily marked by draping on a dress form or hanging on a hanger. Using a ruler or a metre scale, measure up the distance from the floor to the garment and mark the hem.
  3. Using a hem marker: Hem marker is a tool that helps in accurately marking the hems.
