Introduction

  • Audio-Visual Aids are instructional devices which are used to communicate messages more effectively through sound and visuals.
  • The aids help in stimulating the sensory organs like ears and eyes and facilitate quick comprehension of the message by the audience.
  • These may be used for literate as well as for illiterate people.
  • The use of audio-visual aids has the following advantages
    • Capture audience attention and arouse their interest
    • Highlight main points of the message clearly
    • The possibility of misinterpreting concepts is reduced
    • Structure the learning process more effectively
    • Messages perceived with several senses are understood and retained better
    • Provide experiences otherwise difficult to get
    • Help reach more people irrespective to their level of literacy and language
    • Speed up the process of learning
    • Can adapt the speed of presentation to the reactions of the audience
    • Save time of teacher and learner
  • The instructional devices through which the message can only be heard are known as AUDIO AIDS.
  • The instructional devices through which the message can only be seen are known as VISUAL AIDS.
  • The instructional devices through which the message can be heard and seen simultaneously are known as AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS.
