TECHNIQUES OF INTERVIEWING

Preparatory thinking

• Introduction of interviewer (investigator) to interviewee (respondent.)
• Place and time must be convenient to the interviewee.
• Gesture of politeness.
• Avoid back-door approaches and encroachments.
• Interview the leader first before interviewing others and ensure their cooperation.
• Time of interview preferably should not be more than 30 minutes.

Approach to the interview

• Friendly exchange of greetings.
• Explain the purpose of meeting / interview.
• Give importance to the interviewee.
• Use friendly and informal approach.
• Build up the rapport.
• Close the interview with courtesy.
