TRACTION INSTRUMENTS

An ideal obstetrical instrument should be simple in design. It should be dealing with all abnormal conditions to be encountered in practice and can be used by less experienced persons without danger of injury to the mother.

  • William’s obstetrical hook (Long blunt obstetrical hook)

  • Krey schuttler’s double joint sharp and blunt hook

  • Snares - Long one meter rope made of synthetic material or cotton with loops. Snare is applied on the limbs and mandible.

  • Obstetrical chains with handles - This is an alternative to snares. Chains are strong, do not cause injury to the fetus or the genital tract of the dam. They are made of stainless steel and can be easily sterilized and therefore excellent to use on decomposed fetus.

  •   Long flexible cane hook – Williams long blunt obstetrical hook – Applied on the inner canthus of the eye, chest wall, flexible joint, mandible.

  • Harm’s blunt paired eye hooks – Applied on the inner canthus of the eyes.

  • Ober mayer’s anal hook – Applied through the anus on to the pelvis of the fetus.   

Anal Hook

  • Krey schuttler’s double joint sharp and blunt hook – This can be applied to the joints in the limbs.

  • Snare Introducer - Schrievers and lindhorst model – This can be used for looping this snare during  mutation.
