Methods of computing the volume of earth work - Mid sectional area method
Unit 7- Earth work calculations
Methods used to calculate volume of earthwork
Methods of computing the volume of earth work
The following are the few methods normally used to calculate the volume of earth work.
Mid sectional area method
Y1 and Y2 are the depth of cut or height of bank at any two sections, which are at a distance “D” apart. Let “Y” be the depth of cut or height of bank at the section lays mid way between the sections, then
Let “A” be the cross sectional area of the earth work at the mid section. Then the volume of earth work between two given sections is computed from the relating V = A x D.
