RUMINAL PARAKERATOSIS

Parakeratosis of ruminal epithelium

  • Caused by lowered pH and increased VFA
  • Papillae are enlarged, leathery, dark in color and adhere to form clumps.
  • Increase in the thickness of the cornified epithelium especially on the dorsal surface of rumen about the level of the fluid ruminal contents.
