Prevention and control

PREVENTION AND CONTROL

  • Gradual period of adaptation
  • Small incremental increases in grain
  • Usage of dietary buffer: 2% sodium bicarbonate, sodium bentonite or limestoneĀ Or usage of 10% alfalfa hay

Ionophores

  • Salinomycin, monensin and lasalocid provides protective effect. Laidlomycin reduces the severity of acidosis.
  • Ionophores alters VFA profile in the rumen and increases the propionate production
  • Decreases the population of S. bovis in rumen
  • Clearance of lactate from rumen and increases ruminal pH
  • Decreases ruminal methanogenesis, ruminal ammonia and decreaes blood levels of ketone bodies.
