COLIC IN HORSE

  • Gastrointestinal diseases causing signs of abdominal pain in horses
  • It is frequent and one of the main cause of the death in horses.
  • It may be acute, chronic or recurrent.

Etiology

  • Impaction of stomach or intestine
  • Mural or extramural blockage of stomach or intestine
  • Dilatation of stomach or intestine
  • Intestinal spasms
  • Paralytic ileus
  • Gastric reflux
  • Peritonitis and other inflammatory conditions of stomach or intestine
  • Verminous arteritis of mesenteric vessels
  • Intusususception
  • Torsion or strangulation of intestine
