Clinical signs

CLINICAL SIGNS

  • If protein loss is mild to moderate—nonspecific signs including weight loss and lethargy
  • If protein loss is severe (serum albumin concentration < 1.5–1.0 g/dL)—often edema and/or ascites
  • If disease leads to renal failure—polyuria–polydipsia, anorexia, nausea, and vomiting may occur.
  • Acute dyspnea or severe panting in dogs caused by a pulmonary thromboembolism (rare)
  • Acute blindness due to retinal hemorrhage or detachment (rare)
