METHODS OF CLINICAL EXAMINATION

  • Besides assessing vital signs, the common techniques to be used for physical examination of dairy cattle are palpation, percussion and auscultation.
  • Palption is to gain information through the sense of touch as to the consistency, extent, temperature and sensitiveness of a part.
  •  Percussion is carried out for assessing the sensitivity to pain and to set in vibration and emit audible sounds
  •  Auscultation is the most rewarding way of examining the heart, lungs and certain digestive organs like rumen, reticulum etc.
