  • Frozen semen can be transported with all types of transport facilities.
  • While transporting the frozen semen it should reach the insemination centres without any damage.
  • The best type of transport should help in such a way that it should reach the insemination centre at less time without jerks and jolts during transport.
  • For transport of frozen semen to the field level the cryogenic containers are used.
  • Various sizes of cryogenic containers are available for this purpose.
  • The size of the cryogenic container is selected based on the number of doses to be transported, the distance to be transported, mode of transport and the season of transport.
  • The frozen semen straws must be immersed in liquid nitrogen during the entire transport.
  • If it is transported over a long period of time the liquid nitrogen should be topped up at regular interval.
  • In this exercise the details about the handling of frozen semen straws and cryogenic containers during their transport to field level is discussed.
