Preparation of teaser bulls

PREPARATION OF TEASER BULLS

Teaser bull: Bull which is used to detect the cow in estrus without being able to fertilize the cow.

  • Problems associated with proper estrous detection necessitate the availability of teaser animals particularly in larger breeding herds where AI is practiced.
  • In dromedary teasers are hardly required.
  • Several techniques like preputial pouch or translocation and corpus cavernosum block are available for this purpose.
  • The aim of the most of the techniques is to prevent the intromission. However such techniques have been reported to lead to a rapid loss of libido.
  • The most commonly used techniques are vasectomy and caudal epididymotomy which do not prevent intromission but spermatozoa are not voided with ejaculate.
