Origin and distribution
Lavender is indigenous to the Mediterranean region, growing wild in the higher hills of Southern France, Italy and Bulgaria. It is also cultivated in several other countries in Europe and elsewhere. Area and production In India, it has been successfully cultivated on an experimental scale in the Kashmir Valley. Presently, lavender is also grown in low rainfall areas and on the slopes of hills in Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. No data is available on area and production of lavender in India. |
