A nutritional inadequacy

May be traced to either a primary (dietary) inadequacy or to a secondary (conditioned) inadequacy. The mere presence of a nutritional inadequacy, however, does not necessarily indicate either malnutrition or deficiency disease, for the human body has interposed an important safety factor between the occurrence of a nutritional inadequacy and the development of deficiency disease.
