Epilepsy

It is also known as convulsion disorder. It reflects the neurological status of an individual.

  • A seizure / epilepsy is a sudden temporary change in the normal functioning of the brains electrical system due to excessive, uncontrolled electrical activity in brain.
  • May occurs due to high fever, drugs /poison, metabolic disorder, chemical imbalance, prenatal/ Peri-natal birth injuries, infections head trauma.

Causes:

  • Heredity
  • Brain injury during prenatal or peri-natal period
  • Physiological disturbances,
  • Personality maladjustments and
  • Environmental strains.

Depending upon the severity, four types of epilepsy has been identified :



Treatment: Medication, brain surgery, special diets, electrical stimulation to vagus nerve.
