Other considerations in assessing young children

Developmental assessment of Young children 4 (1+3)
Lesson 6:Trends and challenges in developmental assessment of young children

Other considerations in assessing young children

  • Use of multiple measures, multiple examiners, multiple situations or environments yield best assessment results for infants, toddlers and young children. The child’s temperament, physical health and current physical state may influence assessment process.
  • Variability of educational and home environments also contribute to the instability of scores.
  • False assessment/identification result in changes in parent child interactions and diminished expectations held for the child.
  • Unidentification of children with developmental problems also is possible in assessing very young children.
