Views of planners regarding basic issues in education
Number of basic issues in education are implied indirectly in the philosophy. They include: content versus process issue, otherwise called as school orientation versus human orientation.
Content orientation: It concerns with providing children with content that enables them to succeed in school as it exists. Focus on preparation for next step in schooling and achievement evaluation includes norm referenced / grade level.
Human orientation: In this orientation the goal is the upward movement of the child as an independent learner to higher levels of intellectual competence. Process of learning and development of problem solving skills are more important. Then content consistency, autonomy, collaboration and cooperation are valued. Years in school are considered an integral part of life itself.
Major goal is for children to become autonomous problem solvers.
Achievement is not dependent on reaching a norm or the next grade level.
