Lesson 28 : Legal and regulatory process -Licensing and Certification

The licensing process

Licensing requires on site visits by inspectors of various departments. At least 2-3 months time is required for initial licensing process. All the departments must provide clearance before license is issued. In some cases programmes are permitted to continue even though licensing is still under the process due to necessity of child care services in that particular community. Since total compliance with all regulations may be very expensive, it is important to have a clear understanding about the changes that are essential before a programme can operate, ex: fire inspector report. Health department might allow a child care programme to begin before a separate sink for hand washing is available in food preparation etc.
