Practice teaching may be the first hands on opportunity to work with children. There are some strategies for easing the transition from student to student teacher. The following guidelines help to make the first days of student teaching a satisfying and positive experiment.
Contact the teacher and meet before school begins. Find out at what time school begins, where the classroom is located, what the age group of children is, the daily schedule and what hours are allotted to student teacher etc.
Ask whether there are any special children or any cultural considerations that must be to be taken care of.
Meeting the other administration staff.
Sharing special skills/talents with the master teacher.
Setting goals along with the master teacher and evaluate whether the goals are met or not..
Plan the strategies in meeting the expectations etc.
Getting started: After few days of teaching, routine becomes familiar, children’s names are known and level of comfort is reached.
