Activities for Healthful Living

These may be categorized under four heads:

  1. Activities for the Development of Habits of Personal Cleanliness- include the following:
    1. Activities for keeping the nails clean
    2. Activities for brushing the teeth daily
    3. Activities for combing hair
    4. Activities for keeping the body clean
    5. Activities for keeping clothes (dress) clean
    6. Activities for practicing toilet habits
    7. Activities for washing the hands before eating food
    8. Activities for washing mouth after taking food
    9. Activities for eating food without mess
    10. Activities for using handkerchief as and when necessary
    11. Activities for blowing nose properly
    12. Activities for washing handkerchief, towel, tumbler, lunch box, etc., to keep them clean
    13. Activities for developing proper postures, i.e., how to sit, how to stand while talking" etc.
  2. Practical Activities for the Development of Habits of Keeping Classroom & school clean

    1. Picking-up litters from floor
    2. Dusting the furniture
    3. Sweeping floor and play field
    4. Pouring water after using the toilets
    5. Putting things including, play equipment in proper place
    6. Keeping the floor neat and clean
  3. Practical Activities for Enabling the Child to Learn about Conditions which Avoid Common ailments

    1. Handkerchief should be used when the nose is running.
    2. The mouth should be covered while coughing.
    3. One should not spit everywhere.
    4. One should not pick-up anything from the ground and eat it.
    5. Stale food should not be eaten.
  4. Activities for the Development of Good Food Habits

    1. Creating an awareness in the child about good food especially about vegetables, fruits and milk products like curd, cheese, etc.
    2. Creating in the child such attitudes that he may like his food, eat willingly and cheerfully at regular intervals.
