Module-9 & 10: Planning, Implementing and Evaluation of Stimulation Programme
for Infants (13-18 months)

Practical- 36, 37, 38 & 39: Execution of stimulation programme for infants (13-18 months).

Aim: To help the students to execute the stimulation activities for children in the age range of 13-18 months

Objectives:

  1. To execute the stimulation programme for children in the age range of 13-18 months in the area of motor, cognitive, social and language development.
  2. To list out the stimulating materials used for children in the age range of 13-18 months.

Stimulation Activities:

Gross motor development:

  • Keep the child in standing position for 1-5 seconds to achieve balance.
  • With supervision, creeps up 1-2 steps on hands and knees.
  • Encourage the child to walk 1-5 steps with support by holding rails and hands. Slowly withdraw support and make the child to walk few steps on his own by clapping hands or showing an item.
  • Make the child to lower self to floor from standing position safely and with control.
  • Give the child pull and push toys with sound to promote independent walking.

Fine motor development:

  • Provide the books with thick pages and ask the child to turn pages
  • Give different puzzles or form boards (2-4 pieces)
  • Give a plain thick paper and encourage the child to scribble
  • Ask the child to place objects with different shapes and sizes into a container/ box/ basket etc. and remove one by one while naming.

Cognitive development:

  • Ask the child to point and name their own body parts
  • Encourage the child to pick the similar cards of objects by colour, shape etc.
  • Assign simple household tasks to understand the given instructions.
  • Play some memory games like hiding and finding the objects and toys

Language development:

  • Encourage the child to make gestures spontaneously to indicate needs
  • Motivate the toddler to observe and communicate by using words
  • Show some picture cards or picture books and ask the child to name one or two familiar objects and desired items
  • Sing songs, play some music and let the child imitate tunes or songs.

Social development:

  • Encourage the child to share his toys and play along with other children
  • Make the child to hold a cup and drink from cup.
