Lesson 42 : Constitution of a National Children’s Board

Introduction

During past two decades it has been made significant progress in the provision of services for children on health, nutrition and education. All these works needs a focus and a forum for planning and review and proper coordination of the multiplicity of services. It is striving hard to meet the needs of children. In order to provide a focus and to ensure continuous planning and coordination of all essential child welfare services a National Children’s Board consisting of the following members:

  1. Prime Minister – President.
  2. Minister of Education and Social Welfare – Working Chairman.
  3. Minister of Health and Family Planning – member.
  4. to (10). Seven Social Workers with experience of Child Welfare Services – Members.
  5. 11to (23). Ten persons nominated by State Governments and three persons by U.T. Administrations, in rotation, from among those who are concerned with Child Welfare Services – Members.
  6. 24 to (26). Two Members of Lok Sabha and one Member of Rajya Sabha to be nominated by the Speaker and the Chairman respectively – Members.
  7. 27. Chairman, Central Social Welfare Board – Member.
  8. 28. Director, Central Institute of Research and Training in public Cooperation – Member.
  9. 29. Secretary of the Government of India, Department of Social Welfare – Member Secretary.
