The context in which each occurs: Managing relationships required in an organization is between the manager and those people who are being managed.

The nature of accountability: Managers are accountable for the job behavior of themselves and those they manage. Leaders are accountable only for themselves.
The motivation of followers: People follow managers because their job description requires it but they follow the leaders voluntarily and for reasons of their own.

Decision making requires an intelligent gathering of facts and initiative on the part of the leaders.
