Personality Development 2(1+1)

Lesson 10 : Personality Structures - Berne

The Child ego state

Contains all impulses and behaviors that come naturally to an infant or a child. When a person is in a child ego state he/she behaves and thinks like a child. Some examples are giggling, sucking, crying, laughing and changing body moments.

There are two sides to child ego state

  1. Natural child: Natural child is spontaneous and free. It is that part of a person that does what it wants to do.
  2. Adopted child: Is that part of a person that has learned to do what others, especially parents insist on, which may make a person rebellious.
