Parent ego state

Parent ego state is made up of attitudes behaviors and values incorporated from parent figures. There are two sides to this

  • Critical parent – interacting with others about what to do and how to do it and criticizing behavior and work of others.
  • Nurturing parent- controlling comforting and caring for another person

  1. A constant child state makes a person want to be taken care of, babied, rewarded and applauded always.
  2. A constant parent will take care of others, nurture them, admonish and punish and reward them and acts like a parent. He is a hard working person, has strong sense of duty and seeks positions of power. He is judgmental and moralistic and is ready to advice.
  3. A constant adult is objective, concerned with facts and figures and is processing information. He or she is perceived as uncaring and unfeeling. His relationships are devoid of emotions and he tends to have professionalized relationships.
