Lesson 03 : Deep Foundation

Introduction

Deep foundations are those in which the depth of the foundation is very large in comparison to its width. Deep foundations are not constructed by ordinary methods of open fit excavations. The deep foundations are recommended under various conditions. Some of the conditions where the deep foundations adopted are the load bearing capacity of the soil is low; large fluctuations in sub-soil water may occur; loads needs to be transferred through water; and the superstructure is very heavy for bridges and underground water construction.
