Properties Of Reinforced Concrete

Lesson 15 : Reinforced Cement Concrete

Properties Of Reinforced Concrete

The combination of steel and concrete becomes practicable and workable .

  1. The concrete while setting grips very fast the surface of the steel bars. Therefore the concrete is able to transmit to the steel bars those stresses which it cannot resist itself.
  2. The co-efficient of linear expansion of concrete and steel are almost the same. Therefore, no neutral stresses are set up within reinforced concrete due to variations in temperature.
  3. The coating of cement grout on the surface of steel bars protects them form corrosion and does not produce any adverse chemical effect.
