Tools For Plastering

Following tools are generally used for plastering work:

Gauging trowel: This is the ordinary trowel and is useful for applying mortar to mouldings, corners, etc. It has a pointed or bull – nosed end.

Float: This tool is used to spread the mortar on the surface. It is made of thin tempered steel or wood. It is also known as the laying trowel. The wooden float provided with nails projecting by about 3mm from the surface is known as the devil float and it is used to make zigzag lines in the plastered surface so as to form a key for the subsequent coat.

Floating rule: This tool is used to check the level of the plastered surface between the successive screeds.

Plumb bob: This tool is useful in forming screeds in the same vertical plane.
