Form or Shape

Flower Arrangement

Lesson 04 : Basic Elements of Art in Flower Arrangement

Form or Shape

Form can be defined as the shape or silhouette of an arrangement. The design might have a circular or triangular form, or might be composed of a number of curved lines. As discussed earlier in this chapter, these design forms developed around the basic types of arrangements originating in two different parts of the world.

Geometric shapes, circles, and triangles, developed from the European type of mass arrangements. The linear shapes evolved from the Oriental type of designs. A combination of these two types of designs gives us the line mass forms common to America. Fig: 4.1 shows examples of the basic design forms and their geometric shapes or line movement. As a beginning designer, become skilled in the basic ones. Later, express your own creativity by exploring variations.
