Smocking

Smocking is a decorative stitch that is done on a gathered material. Gathering of the material is the first step, which is done with a hand needle using basting stitches. Each row of the basting is not secured but left with a loose end. Gathering can also be done on a dotted/checked material. A variety of stitches can be used to decorate the gathered material. They are:

  1. Outline Stitch
  2. Cable Stitch
  3. Wave Stitch
  4. Diamond/Chevron Stitch
  5. Honeycomb Stitch etc
