Landscape Architecture As A Profession

  • The landscape architecture has become a profession.
  • Landscape architecture is concerned with the relationship between people and the landscape and with all aspects of land use.
  • It is the art of arranging land and landscape for human use, convience and enjoyment.
  • It is concerned with the individual home and the whole community.
  • The objectives of the landscape are to integrate functionally and aesthetically, the people, building and site.
  • Plants and space are the main tools to achieve these objectives.
  • Landscape architecture is closely linked to arts, architecture, planning, ecology, sociology and horticulture. As a result, landscape architects are increasingly being involved in interdisciplinary projects.
  • Landscape architects involve themselves in planning and designing of national parks, resorts, golf courses, memorials, urban plazas, shopping malls, and many more.
  • The scope of landscape architecture will also include the design of walks, paths, patios, wall and fences, trellis and pergolas, pools, fountains, roads, parking lots, plantings etc.
  • The landscape architect deals with site development, building arrangement, grading, paving plants and gardens, play grounds, pools and so on.
  • Today landscape gardening profession is growing and may overlap other fields such as planning, architecture and so on.
  • Landscape architecture not only deals with design and development of land for human use and enjoyment, but also conservation of natural sciences, climatology, soil science, botany and many other disciplines.
  • Towns with open spaces around the buildings and their terraces, industries with their specific problems of controlling pollution, amusement parks, hotels, aerodromes, roadways, riverbanks etc are some areas that require the services of a landscape architect.
  • A landscape architect works with ecologists, horticulturists, architects and service engineers besides clients.
  • A landscape architect does more than a garden designer. The clients vary from private home owners to corporate officials to international governmental agencies.
  • Landscape architecture has become a microcosm of various professions, involving various disciplines and multitude of projects.
