Ply yarn


Two or more single are combined to form a ply yarn. This takes place in the second twisting operation. Each of the single yarns is referred to as ply. So the name two ply- two singles used; three ply- three single used as a single ply etc. combining yarns into single yarn tends to increase the diameter, strength and quality of yarn. Due to their higher strength they are generally used in the warp direction in a fabric. Men’s shirting material and sewing threads are a good example of two and three ply yarns. poplin the well known material used in women’s blouses, volies and crepes are made of two ply yarns.
