Weft knitted fabric has all the loops drawn to the face of the fabric. The face side has prominent wales and the back with courses.
It has a definite right and wrong side but can be used on either side for garment construction unless printed
They are light in weight and have good stretch in the course direction
Fabrics have a tendency to curl at the edges. The sides will curl to the technical back and top & bottom to the face
If a loop or yarn breaks, a ‘run’ is seen in the length- wise, or wale direction leading to ladders
They do not ravel or wrinkle easily and have good recovery from wrinkling

Variation: Miss or floatstitch
It is a variation of the plain knit and is used for creating special effects. It is characterized by yarns floating on the technical back of the fabric. In a miss loop the needle does not move into position to accept the yarn, but a yarn is presented, and no actual stitch or loop is formed.
