Rib stitch

Fundamentals of Textile Design 3(2+1)

Lesson 21: Weft Knitting

Rib stitch

Rib-knit fabrics have alternating lengthwise rows of plain and purl stitches. They are produced on a V-bed or circular machines. Two sets of needles are used to produce rib structures. On circular machines, a cylinder bed and dial is used. Both the sides look alike, which makes the fabric reversible as in the case of 1 x 1 and 2 x 2 ribs. Rib patterns are used wherever crosswise stretch is desired.
