The needles are raised to their highest position. The previously formed loops will be on the stems of the needles, and the sinker holds down the formed fabric.
The guide bar carrying the yarn that formed the last loop on the left needle moves to the right, places the yarn in the needle to the right.
A yarn from the far left is placed in the left needle.
When the yarn is against the needle stem, the needles begin their descent which now traps the yarn in the hooks. The presser bar moves toward the needles, while the sinker moves away.
The presser bar moves in and forces the tips of the needles against the stems to hold the yarn in place and to permit the needles to pull the yarn through the previously formed loops.
The needles with the new loops move to their lowest position, and the old loops have been knocked off. The sinker moves back in to hold the fabric. The needles will return to the uppermost position, and the process repeated.
