Introduction

Colour speaks louder than words; its appeal is universal. It is very important in textiles as it has a visual sensation created by the reflectance of selected visible light rays. Selected visible light rays that strike the retina of the eye and stimulate certain cells in the nerves of the eye. The nerves send message to the brain, which, in turn, produces the sensation of a specific hue. Colour can be added to textiles, objects by dyes or pigments. Surface decoration on textiles is brought about by dyeing and printing. Various techniques in dyeing result in embellishing fabrics in a colourful way. Selection of suitable dye for a fabric and the technique play a governing role in creation of varied textiles
