Lesson 29: Printing methods

Duplex printing & Blotch printing

Duplex printing:

This is similar to roller printing except that both the sides of fabric is printed in one go or sometimes the face is first printed and the back is printed later depending on the type of machine used. Careful registration of cylinders is important as the design should match on both the sides of fabric. Both the sides of fabric look alike in terms of design clarity. This is an expensive process.

Blotch printing

In this printing technique the background colour and the design are both printed onto a white fabric in one operation. Blotch prints can be made to simulate the more costly discharge and resist prints. Blotch prints can be identified by the lighter background.
