Stencil Printing

In stencil printing designs are cut from resist material like sheets of paper coated with oil, wax or varnish or from thin sheets of metal. Usually a separate stencil is cut for each color with a part of the design cut out on it. The stencils must be planned so they register or fit together properly to result in a perfect print. A difficulty with stencil prints is that the design areas must be connected to prevent parts of the stencil from falling out. In producing stencil prints today, the color can be applied by hand brush, air brush or spray gun. The method is used for limited yardage, scarves and similar products.
