Lesson 26 : Exports And Imports

Wool and Woollens Export Promotion Council (W & WEPC), New Delhi

The W & WEPC was set up for promotion of export of woollen products. It gets grants-in-aid from the Government. It has two branch offices in Bombay and Ludhiana.

  • To introduce foreign businessmen to appropriate domestic exporters of woollen/acrylic products and provide them with information useful in conducting business with firms in India.
  • To assist foreign buyers in their visits to India and chalk out tour programmes, arrangements etc.
  • To participate in leading international trade fairs and exhibitions in order to project the quality and variety of Indian woollen products abroad.
  • To promote overseas public relations.
  • To research foreign markets and supply information about overseas consumers requirements to Indian exporters.
  • To keep track of international fashion trends and fashion forecasts and transmits them to Indian woollen units.
  • To sponsor sales-cum-study delegations of Indian exporters abroad for a first-hand knowledge of market trends abroad
  • To invite representative of leading international departmental stores so as to help foreign buyers gain first-hand knowledge of the capability of India's woollen industry.
  • To maintain close contact with the Government for sorting out problems faced by the exporters
  • To chalk out and implement programmes for enlarging and improving the production base.
